Happiness Month … It’s a Choice

August is supposed to be Happiness Month…..isn’t every month happy? …but in celebration of that, here are a few things that are making me happy today.

Kappa Construction Corp (truelook.cloud)   That’s the link to go to to see live pictures of what’s going on at the Highlands Borough Hall building site. They are still rather than moving, but they’re still live and great views of all the work going on right up there alongside Route 36.  Nice to check in every once in a while to see how often the view changes.

Happy to hear Pat Stryker is doing well after her surgery after a fall recently She’s one really tough little lady who isn’t going to let a simple fracture keep her down!  She’s still undergoing rehab but should be back home soon and continuing to keep her husband the former Mayor happy she’s well on her way to full recovery.

Hearing that The Shore Casino is now open weekends for late afternoon/early evenings appetizers and get togethers really makes me happy. The appetizers on the menu are huge, so think of it as a complete meal at a most reasonable price.  If you order one of those stuffed baked potatoes crammed full to overflowing with broccoli, cheese, bacon and so much more, or, for a couple of bucks extra, add in some chicken fingers, shrimp or steak, and you’ll wonder how they can call it an appetizer rather than the entrée it appears to be . Literally overflowing on the platter!. Or sample the shrimp Po boy or buffalo shrimp with a remoulade sauce lettuce and tomato. Amazing what you get  for $16!    Heard, but haven’t had it confirmed, there will be Karaoke there this Friday night, so it might be worth planning a stop in to check that out.   And you meet the nicest people there as well! There’s a lot to be said for spontaneous get togethers!

Happy to have met the Springsteens, a wonderful brother and sister who donated a very special chair from the 1800s to the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society. The chair has been in the family all that time, including when they family lived at the Leonardo house on Ave. D, the current St. Agnes Thrift Shop  The Springsteens love tracing so many facets of their fascinating family and all its connections to Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and Leonardo, as descendants of the well-known and appreciated Leonard family. And all the local folks who loved sharing this history with their visitors were so happy to be able to help them fill in some gaps with more fascinating stories.
